Faith by Kim Hargreaves

Now I think of it, I have been knitting longer than cross stitching. My current knitting project is Faith from Heartfelt by Kim Hargreaves. I am not using suggested yarn (Rowan Classic Bamboo Soft), since the wise people told me that it grows like crazy. Instead, I am using Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette (40% Alpaca, 40% Merino and 20% Silk) in 755 Musk, which is a very sophisticated gray-ish mauve...my favorite color! The color of the yarn looks much like how it is than my finished back. I got the yarns on sale at one of my favorite online yarn store. Alpaca Silk Georgette is not quite the same gauge as Bamboo soft (24 stitches by 30 rows). I got 26 by 32 on US5 (the label says 25x 33 on US3). I'm knitting between small and midium so that I can get xs~s in the end, hopefully. I'm done with the back, and 80% done with one of the sleeves. It has been toooo hot to knit, but finally it has gotten a bit better here in SoCal. The yarn is very soft and has subtle halo from Alpaca.



たぶん小学生くらいの頃から見よう見まねで編み物をしていますが、ここ最近あまりの暑さにさすがに毛糸には触りたくなかったのですが、ちっと暑さも緩んだようなので、ほっといたカーディガンをまた再開することにしました。キムさんの本、Heartfelt から Faith を編んでいます。うわさでは、指定糸は編んだ後のび～～～るということなので、全然違う糸、 Jo Sharp の Alpaca Silk Georgette を使っています。色は、 755 Musk で、グレーがかった、洗練されたモーヴ、私の一番好きな色です。後ろ見ごろの写真より、糸の写真の方が本物に近いです。糸はとてもやわらかく。アルパカ特有の毛足がフェミニンな感じ。指定糸と使用糸は少しゲージが違っていて、指定糸は２４目30段、使用糸は２６目32段（US5 使用）です。少し大きめサイズ（SとMの間）を編んで、最終的にxs~sになればいいか.....といつものようにいい加減。とりあえず、後ろ身ごろは編み終わっていて、いま肩の片方が80% くらいできあがったところです。また冬眠させないようにがんばります。

Freebie 2 finished

I finished stitching the angel heart that I mentioned a while ago. Now I need to find a frame that looks good with it. I'm thinking of making another one, and make it into a Xmas ornament. I will decorate this one somewhere in the kitchen.

I used the leftover fabric (belfast 36ct flax)
from Mary, and Caron waterlilies thread in flame.

だいぶ前にブログにのせたハートの天使ちゃん、やっと出来上がりました。あとは小さな額をどこかで調達してくるだけです。でもちょうどいいものがあるでしょうか。これは台所に飾る予定ですが、なかなか可愛いので（自画自賛ですが....）、もうひとつ刺して、今度はクリスマスオーナメントに仕立てたいです。(はたしてそんなことが縫い物の苦手な私にできるか?!)

布はメアリーちゃんの残りの belfast 36ct flax、糸は Caron waterlilies の flame です。

Tulip is done!

I finished the tulip motif in the right corner. It's soooo cute. I used a thread similar to the suggested one, but it would have been super cute if it was some kind of pink. Nonetheless. I like it a lot.

チューリップモチーフ、出来ました。指定糸に似た色を使ったのですが、ピンクっぽい色だったらもっとかわいかったかなーとも思います。ともあれ、やっぱりチューリップは可愛いです。

I was on a mini trip to Napa last weekend to see a friend of mine from my grad school. I will post some pics when I'm done with organizing the photos....

Mary update part-3

I'm done with the crown motif. This might be my favorite motif so far. It was very fun to stitch, and love the two tone too. The pattern in the central square is so pretty, and the crown is very cute.

王冠のモチーフ、出来ました。これ、今までで一番楽しかったモチーフです。あっという間に出来ました。真ん中の四角の中のモチーフが、繊細でとっても綺麗(ちょっと感動）。王冠もすっごく可愛いし、二色使いもいい感じ。お気に入りです

And a bit of Mary update....Finally reached to the top-left edge, and I am randomly stitching along the right edge. Hmmmmm I wonder if the colors look OK....

I changed the color of the motif with a crown from AVAS 1745 (DMC 3768) to 2941 (DMC930), since it seems that there is only one motif that uses 2941 (it is a part of the motif located in between part-1 and part-2), and the crown motif is very close to a motif stiched with 1745 (the flowerly motif in part 2). Besides, I think 2941 looks great with black!

大して進んでいませんが、メアリーちゃんです。いちお左上の端っこまで行ったので(モチーフは終わっていませんが）、今度は右横端に沿って、めちゃくちゃな順番で気の向くままに刺しています。　全体を見回してみると、う～～～～ん。こんなにいろいろな色を使ったことがないので、色使いがいいのやら悪いのやら、よく分かりません。

右端の王冠のモチーフを AVAS 1745 (DMC 3768) から 2941 (DMC930) に変更しました。というのも、この AVAS 2941、 part-1 と part-2 にまたがってあるモチーフ以外に使うところがないようだし（＜貧乏性のわたし）、すでに王冠モチーフのすぐ近くの花モチーフに AVAS 1745を使っているので、ちょっと近すぎるような気がするんです。おまけに AVAS 2941 って、なんだか黒とよく合うような気がしたからです。　どうでしょうか。

Freebie 2

Another mini-project using a freebie chart (although I cannot remember where I downloaded the chart from. All I remember is that it was a french site. Let me know if you happened to know!) I am using the leftover fabric from Mary (belfast 36ct Flax) with Caron Waterlilies Flame.

I love anything with cherubs. This will be another mini frame.

It has been soooo hot in SoCal. Even though I am pretty good at dealing with heat, this is getting quite tough. Hope everybody is doing well....Take care!

またまた freebie の浮気作品です。ずいぶん昔にダウンロードしたので、いったいどのサイトだったか忘れてしまったのですが、たしか、フランスのサイトだったと思います。エンジェルに目のないわたし、このチャートもとっても気に入っています。布は Maryちゃんの切れ端の belfast 36ct Flax、糸は Caron Waterlilies の Flame です。これも小さな額仕立てにする予定。

南カリフォルニアはものすごい猛暑で、暑いのに強い私もかなりバテ気味、皆さんもお体に気をつけて。

Thumbelina

While visiting Solvang, I visited Thumbelina, which sells Scandinavian needlework goods. I was very tempted to get a couple of Xmas-themed kits, but I ended up bringing two books home. One is a small brochure for Danish Xmas motifs that I have been eying for a long time. Another is (not Danish) for monograms. I am especially happy with the Xmas brochure. I am definitely going to make some ornaments......hmmmm what else should I make?......any suggestions?

Solvangを訪れたときに、北欧刺繍を取り扱うThumbelinaに行ってきました。私が住んでいる近辺だけかもしれませんが、アメリカ以外の国の刺繍用品や材料を探すのは、かなり大変です。もちろんインターネットで買えばいいのですが、やっぱりたまには実際に見て楽しみたいもの。もう少しハイセンスなお店が近くにあればと思います。

私が今回買ったのは、いろいろな方が刺していらっしゃって、前からとってもほしかったクリスマスモチーフの小冊子（こちらはデンマークのもの）と、モノグラムの薄い本です。とくにクリスマスの冊子がとっても気に入りました。まずはオーナメントをいくつか作ろうと思っていますが、ほかに、何を作りましょうか......何かいいアイデアがあったら、ぜひ教えてください！

Solvang

So, I went to Solvang last weekend. Solvang is supposed to be a Danish town about 30 minutes from Santa Barbara, originally founded by Danish pioneers in 1911. However, you can find various Scandinavian items (not limited to Denmark) here. Some (including my hubby) seem to be confused and think that Solvang is a Dutch town. I am assuming that this is partly because some think Dutch = from Denmark (!!!) and they associate the windmills solely with the Netherlands. In fact, some stores sell Dutch items in Solvang, and this doesn't help with clearing up the confusion.

先日ちょっと書きましたが、先週末、 サンタバーバラから三十分ぐらいのところにある、Solvang というデンマークからの移民によって作られた町にいってきました。デンマーク風の町といっても、今ではスカンジナビア各国の雑貨を扱う店や、レストランでいっぱいです。ところで、アメリカにはオランダ人（Dutch）とデンマーク人（Danish）の区別が付かない人がときどきいます。日本人にとってはありえないことですが、英語の単語 「オランダ人」もしくは「オランダの」を意味する 'Dutch' が国名（オランダの国のことは、英語で Netherlands もしくは Holland といっています）とかなり異なるので、'Dutch' と聞いたときに、ついD ではじまる国名、デンマークを想像してしまうからでしょう。

Anyway, here is one of the three windmills in town, and an amazing store with lots of Scandinavian Xmas goods. I actually had a pen pal (yeah, pre-internet era....) living in Horsens, Denmark. We used to send letters (and little packages for holidays and birthdays) back and forth just about once a month for 7 years or so since we were 12 yrs old......Unfortunately, we have lost in touch, and never been able to see each other in person. The Xmas goods I found in Solvang reminded me of all the goodies she sent me over the years.....I wonder what she is doing now.....

Solvang で一番気に入ったのは、スカンジナビアのクリスマスグッズを売っているお店。とっても懐かしい感じがしたのです。というのも、実は中学、高校のとき、デンマークのHorsensというところに住んでいるペンパルがいたのです。（今ではペンパルなどという言葉は死語ですが。）おたがい、一月に一度かそこら手紙や小包にいれたプレゼントを贈りあったものです。特に中学のときは習いたての英語で手紙を書くのが大変でした。クリスマスには彼女からデンマークの可愛いクリスマス用品が送られてくるのが本当に楽しみでした。結局お互い大学生になって忙しく、引越しなどもあって、音信不通になってしまったのですが、一度も実際に会うことのなかった彼女、いったい今、どうしているんでしょう。2003年にデンマークをおとずれる機会があったのですが、Horsensには行けなかったので、今どこにいるのか、まったく分からないんです。

We also found a charming spa (nail care + massage) that had amazing garden. We took lots of pics of the house. The lady who worked there was so nice to take some pictures of us, even though we didn't get any service there.

そのほかにも、とっても可愛いネイルサロンを見つけました。何もしてはもらわなかったのですが、写真はいっぱい撮っちゃいました。（＜ずうずうしいやつ）
お庭が本当に可愛くて、思わずくつろいでしまいました。今の家は庭のスペースがありませんが、将来ぜひこんな庭のある家を買おうね、とダンナと誓ったのでした。

Mary Wigham 2-4 and unseasonal object

I haven't made much progress with Mary :( Actually, my hubby and I went to Solvang and Santa Barbara last weekend! It was so much fun, despite the hot weather. We stopped by the famous needlework shop Thumbelina. Once I sort out the pictures, I will post them as well.

メアリーちゃん、あんまり進んでいません。実は先週末、ダンナといっしょにサンタバーバラとデンマーク風の町、ソルバングに遊びに行きました。ソルバングでは、デンマーク刺繍のお店として有名な Thumbelinaにも行ってきました。写真の整理が出来次第、いろいろアップロードしますね。

I also stitched a freebie Xmas tree, although it's soooo early! I have to start early, otherwise I'd never finish for Xmas.....

This was from gigi's website, although it's no longer available. I am thinking of framing it, but want to make a smaller version to make an ornament. I used 36ct linen, flax (the leftover from Mary) and thread gatherer silk thread 'in the burgundy'. I love this thread! It makes me thinks of various colors of wine. yum (though I cannot really drink.) The thread seems to be thicker than Caron waterlillies. I'll definitely use it again.

また浮気です。季節外れですが、こんなのも作ってみました。gigiさんのサイトからずいぶん前にダウンロードしたのですが、いまはもう公開なさっていないようです。メアリーの残りの36ctリネンの flax に、 thread gatherer のシルク糸 in the burgundy を使いました。この糸、微妙な色使いの段染めなんですが、どの色も、さまざまなワインを思わせる素敵な色で、お気に入りです。飲めない私でも、ワインが飲みたくなります。 Caron の waterlillies よりも糸が丈夫な(太い）ようですし、とっても刺しやすかったです。またぜひ何かに使いたいと思います。ちなみに、今回は額装するつもりですが、次回はもっと小さく刺して、オーナメントを作りたいです。

New charts

I got two new charts for Xmas (yeah, I know it's a bit early, but I am such a slow stitcher, I need to start early!). I am thinking of making lots of cross stitched ornaments for our tree. The right one is, again, from Blue Ribbon Designs. It's coded for Weeks Dyd Works Cotton Floss as well as DMC, but I want to use silk threads, so I am thinking of using thread gatherer's silk thread. The left one, from the cat's whiskers design studio, can be stitched all together into a long sampler or stitched individually into ornaments.

新しいチャートを二つ買ってきました。どちらも気が早く、クリスマスものです。なんせステッチするのが遅いので、早めにはじめないと。とはいえ、クリスマスものって、見るといつでも買いたくなるのよね......右はまた Blue Ribbon Designs のもので、指定糸は Weeks Dyd Works Cotton Floss ですが、私としてはシルク糸を使いたいので、thread gatherer の糸を使おうかと思っています。左のは the cat's whiskers design studio のもので、全部いっしょに刺してサンプラーにも、一つづつ刺してオーナメントにもできます。わたしは今のところ、赤糸を使ってオーナメントを作るつもりです。今年こそはクロスステッチのオーナメントでクリスマスツリーを飾りたい！はたしてどうなることやら。それまでに、今の刺しかけをがんばって終わらせないと。

pumpkins are growing (PP-4)

I have done a couple more pumpkins. I'm getting over the fact that it looks quite different from the sample. The pumpkins are so cute! I'd love to stitch other Halloween-themed ones from Blue Ribbon Designs, though I'd use the suggested fabric as well to see if that would help to make them look like the samples.....

パンプキン増殖中です。見本とだいぶ違うのが気になっていたのですが、かぼちゃが可愛いので、良しとします。ほかにも Blue Ribbon Designs からハロウィーンをテーマにしたチャートが出ているので、ぜひそれもステッチしてみたいと思います。ただし、次回は布も指定のものを使ってみようと思います。そうしたら見本にもうちょっと近くなるでしょうか。

Mary update 2-3

I finally finished the squirrel, though I still have to work on the branches. My hubby laughed so hard when he saw the macho squirrel! Sorry for the wrinkly pic!

やっとリスちゃん登場です。まだ枝のところは終わっていませんが。（うちのダンナがマッチョなリスに思いっきり受けてました。（顔が長いとの指摘、ほんとだ！）しわしわの写真ですみません。

今日は独立記念日なので、いまから友人宅でバーベキューです。みなさんもよい週末を。

Not so progress report on Mary 2-2 and PP too

I haven't done much on Mary, but here is another pic. Finally I started on Popeye the squirrel motif. I didn't use two colors for the branches as I mentioned before.

全然変化のないメアリーちゃんです。一応、りすのモチーフを刺し始めましたが、こういうモチーフ、どうも苦手のようです。幾何学的なモチーフの方が無心に刺せるので、進みが早いんですよ。

I restarted the pumpkin with new threads, but it doesn't look anything like the sample! WTH? Oh well, I'll just go as is. It's very cute, if you don't compare it with the sample. I am very much enjoying stitching with Crescent Colours thread. This is my first time using their thread. I like the variegation very much, although some color is more variegated than others. Especially I love Weeping Willow. Another green tea color that makes me want to have some Japanese sweet with macha tea.

パンプキンは新たに買ってきた Crescent Colours の糸で刺し直しです。でも、見本と全然違う!!!なぜ???もう仕方がないのでこのまま突き進みます。見本と比べなければ、十分可愛いです。 Crescent Colours の糸は今回初めて使うんですが、とてもいい感じです。特に Weeping Willow がお気に入り。またもや抹茶色です。おいしい和菓子が食べたくなって困っています。

My hubby loved the first pumpkin I finished, saying that it reminds him of the pumpkin curving contest his elementary school had when he was little...how cute.

うちのダンナがやっとできたかぼちゃを見て、うけてました。（可愛いとはいってたけど。）子供のときに小学校の年中行事であったランタン作りを思い出すんだそうです

Change of plan: pumpkin patch 2

I decided to change the threads for the pumpkin patch, since AVAS looks too bright and 'neat'. I really like the primitive look of the sample, so I figured at least I should use the over dyed thread.

So, I went to my LNS and bought the suggested Crescent Colors threads.....the threads still looks sooooooo bright! I wonder how the sample looks the way it does!!!

Oh well, see how it goes......

例のパンプキンですが、どうも AVAS では見本のような素朴な感じがでないので、いつもの近所のお店にいって、指定糸の Crescent Colors を買ってきました。Crescent Colors は、みなさんもご存知のように、コットンの段染めっぽい糸(というか、いわゆる over dyed というやつ) なのですがでも、この糸も実物はすっごく派手派手！これで本当に見本のようになるのか非常に疑問です。まあ、とりあえず、この新しい糸で刺してみます。布はそのままです。
