Tulip is done!

I finished the tulip motif in the right corner. It's soooo cute. I used a thread similar to the suggested one, but it would have been super cute if it was some kind of pink. Nonetheless. I like it a lot.

チューリップモチーフ、出来ました。指定糸に似た色を使ったのですが、ピンクっぽい色だったらもっとかわいかったかなーとも思います。ともあれ、やっぱりチューリップは可愛いです。

I was on a mini trip to Napa last weekend to see a friend of mine from my grad school. I will post some pics when I'm done with organizing the photos....

Mary update part-3

I'm done with the crown motif. This might be my favorite motif so far. It was very fun to stitch, and love the two tone too. The pattern in the central square is so pretty, and the crown is very cute.

王冠のモチーフ、出来ました。これ、今までで一番楽しかったモチーフです。あっという間に出来ました。真ん中の四角の中のモチーフが、繊細でとっても綺麗(ちょっと感動）。王冠もすっごく可愛いし、二色使いもいい感じ。お気に入りです

And a bit of Mary update....Finally reached to the top-left edge, and I am randomly stitching along the right edge. Hmmmmm I wonder if the colors look OK....

I changed the color of the motif with a crown from AVAS 1745 (DMC 3768) to 2941 (DMC930), since it seems that there is only one motif that uses 2941 (it is a part of the motif located in between part-1 and part-2), and the crown motif is very close to a motif stiched with 1745 (the flowerly motif in part 2). Besides, I think 2941 looks great with black!

大して進んでいませんが、メアリーちゃんです。いちお左上の端っこまで行ったので(モチーフは終わっていませんが）、今度は右横端に沿って、めちゃくちゃな順番で気の向くままに刺しています。　全体を見回してみると、う～～～～ん。こんなにいろいろな色を使ったことがないので、色使いがいいのやら悪いのやら、よく分かりません。

右端の王冠のモチーフを AVAS 1745 (DMC 3768) から 2941 (DMC930) に変更しました。というのも、この AVAS 2941、 part-1 と part-2 にまたがってあるモチーフ以外に使うところがないようだし（＜貧乏性のわたし）、すでに王冠モチーフのすぐ近くの花モチーフに AVAS 1745を使っているので、ちょっと近すぎるような気がするんです。おまけに AVAS 2941 って、なんだか黒とよく合うような気がしたからです。　どうでしょうか。

Mary Wigham 2-4 and unseasonal object

I haven't made much progress with Mary :( Actually, my hubby and I went to Solvang and Santa Barbara last weekend! It was so much fun, despite the hot weather. We stopped by the famous needlework shop Thumbelina. Once I sort out the pictures, I will post them as well.

メアリーちゃん、あんまり進んでいません。実は先週末、ダンナといっしょにサンタバーバラとデンマーク風の町、ソルバングに遊びに行きました。ソルバングでは、デンマーク刺繍のお店として有名な Thumbelinaにも行ってきました。写真の整理が出来次第、いろいろアップロードしますね。

I also stitched a freebie Xmas tree, although it's soooo early! I have to start early, otherwise I'd never finish for Xmas.....

This was from gigi's website, although it's no longer available. I am thinking of framing it, but want to make a smaller version to make an ornament. I used 36ct linen, flax (the leftover from Mary) and thread gatherer silk thread 'in the burgundy'. I love this thread! It makes me thinks of various colors of wine. yum (though I cannot really drink.) The thread seems to be thicker than Caron waterlillies. I'll definitely use it again.

また浮気です。季節外れですが、こんなのも作ってみました。gigiさんのサイトからずいぶん前にダウンロードしたのですが、いまはもう公開なさっていないようです。メアリーの残りの36ctリネンの flax に、 thread gatherer のシルク糸 in the burgundy を使いました。この糸、微妙な色使いの段染めなんですが、どの色も、さまざまなワインを思わせる素敵な色で、お気に入りです。飲めない私でも、ワインが飲みたくなります。 Caron の waterlillies よりも糸が丈夫な(太い）ようですし、とっても刺しやすかったです。またぜひ何かに使いたいと思います。ちなみに、今回は額装するつもりですが、次回はもっと小さく刺して、オーナメントを作りたいです。

Mary update 2-3

I finally finished the squirrel, though I still have to work on the branches. My hubby laughed so hard when he saw the macho squirrel! Sorry for the wrinkly pic!

Off to the 4th of July BBQ. Have a great weekend, everyone!

やっとリスちゃん登場です。まだ枝のところは終わっていませんが。（うちのダンナがマッチョなリスに思いっきり受けてました。（顔が長いとの指摘、ほんとだ！）しわしわの写真ですみません。

今日は独立記念日なので、いまから友人宅でバーベキューです。みなさんもよい週末を。

Not so progress report on Mary 2-2 and PP too

I haven't done much on Mary, but here is another pic. Finally I started on Popeye the squirrel motif. I didn't use two colors for the branches as I mentioned before.

全然変化のないメアリーちゃんです。一応、りすのモチーフを刺し始めましたが、こういうモチーフ、どうも苦手のようです。幾何学的なモチーフの方が無心に刺せるので、進みが早いんですよ。

I restarted the pumpkin with new threads, but it doesn't look anything like the sample! WTH? Oh well, I'll just go as is. It's very cute, if you don't compare it with the sample. I am very much enjoying stitching with Crescent Colours thread. This is my first time using their thread. I like the variegation very much, although some color is more variegated than others. Especially I love Weeping Willow. Another green tea color that makes me want to have some Japanese sweet with macha tea.

パンプキンは新たに買ってきた Crescent Colours の糸で刺し直しです。でも、見本と全然違う!!!なぜ???もう仕方がないのでこのまま突き進みます。見本と比べなければ、十分可愛いです。 Crescent Colours の糸は今回初めて使うんですが、とてもいい感じです。特に Weeping Willow がお気に入り。またもや抹茶色です。おいしい和菓子が食べたくなって困っています。

My hubby loved the first pumpkin I finished, saying that it reminds him of the pumpkin curving contest his elementary school had when he was little...how cute.

うちのダンナがやっとできたかぼちゃを見て、うけてました。（可愛いとはいってたけど。）子供のときに小学校の年中行事であったランタン作りを思い出すんだそうです

Mary and Popeye

I finally started on part-2 of MW, although the progress picture doesn't show much progress at all. Anyway, I cannot wait to stitch Popeye the squirrel! I am so looking forward to it. I am most likely use only one color for the branches. By the way, what is the little creature right above the squirrel? a porcupine?

Oh, lastly, I finally went to buy a substitute color for DMC 3855. I chose AVAS 2611. It's a very soft creamy color. I love it so much that I'd love to use that for a baby item (though I don't have one!) in the future....


やっとメアリーちゃん、part-2 にとりかかりました。とはいっても、まったく変わりばえの無い経過写真です。早くガッツポーズのリスちゃん（わたしはかってにポパイという名前をつけてますが）を刺したいです。たぶん枝のところは一色にしてしまうつもりなんですが、みなさんはチャートどおり刺してらっしゃるのでしょうか。ちなみに、最後まで決まらなかったDMC 3855 の代用をやっと買ってきました。 AVAS 2611 で、黄色がかったクリーム色で、とっても可愛くて、お気に入りです。将来ベビー用品にぜひ使ってみたいです（といってもまだうちは子供がいないのですが。）

Part-1 finished!

Finally I am done with part-1 (except a few stitches for the flowers since it continues to part-2) . I also stitched a bit of part-4 to see the color I chose as a substitute for DMC 963 (AVAS 2941) would look OK. Ahhhhh. It's tooooo blight as I suspected. It looks like neon pink among all the other subdued colors. I tried a different color that I had in hand (AVAS 4633). Looks much better, even though it's quite different from the original DMC color. I am going to use AVAS 1012 for DMC 225, there is not much choice left for pale pink that actually shows up on my fabric. I think I'll stick to AVAS 4633 for now.

やっと part-1 終わりました（といってもカーネーションっぽいモチーフは part-2 とつながっているので、全部刺し終えていません）。　あと、 part-4 の最初のモチーフをちょこっと刺してみました。というのも、 DMC 963 の代わりに選んだ AVAS 2941 がどう見てもちょっと派手派手。実際に刺してみると.......やっぱり！周りの中間色に比べると蛍光ピンク！って感じでだめです。ほどいて手持ちのAVAS 4633 を使って再挑戦。こっちのほうがましです。元の色とかなり違うのですが、DMC 225の代わりにAVAS1012を使うことにしてしまったので、ほかに薄めのピンクがないんです。とりあえずAVAS 4633 でいくことにします。

I finished the green tea colored motif, finally. I wasn't really paying attention to the details of this motif, but once I'm done. I realized how cute the little bits that line up in circle are!

抹茶のモチーフ、ようやく完成しました。刺す前は、花と葉っぱのようになっているところにしか、目が行っていなかったのですが、できあがってみると、縁取りのようになっているちっちゃいパーツが半円状に並んでいるのがとっても可愛くって、気に入っています。

I changed the mini yellow motif in between two flower motifs tiny bit so that it'd be symmetrical. I am almost done with part-1. YAY!

二つの花モチーフの間のちっちゃい黄色のモチーフ、ちょっと変更して左右対称になるように刺しました。パート１完成までもう少しです！

Mary Wigham part 1-4

Here is another update. It's going really slowly. I am struggling with the green motif, though I love the color. It looks yummy (reminds me of green tea). I love the dusty mauve color that I chose for the flowery motif! I hope I can finish up Part-1 before Monday (wishful thinking...).

遅々として進みませんが、いちおその後の経過です。緑のモチーフに四苦八苦していますが、色は抹茶っぽくておいしそう。お花のモチーフにつかった渋々のモーヴも気に入っています。はたして月曜までにパート１、終わるでしょうか。

I also made some pins using swarovski beads, since the beads were on sale at Michaels. It was so much fun! I am thinking of getting more beads.....

スワロのビーズがセールになっていたので、マチ針なんか作っちゃいました。すっごく楽しかったので、もっと買ってこようかと思ってます。

Freebie 1 and Mary update 1-3

I've been working on this too besides Mary.

This is a famous freebie from swappons (click here. for the chart). I am thinking of framing it afterward and put it in the kitchen.

My Mary is going very slowly. At least I like the new colors I picked instead of white & ecre. I love looking at other SAL participants pics, especially the ones stitched with a gradation of one hue. I am in love with the one by a French stitcher and a Japanese stitcher who use mauve /purple /pink /lavender. Those are my favorite colors. Maybe I will use these colors in my next quaker sampler (first, finish this one!!!)


MW といえば、指定糸ではなくて、同系色で刺していらっしゃる方がけっこういますね。とっても素敵です。特にフランスと日本のSALで見かけたモーヴ系（私の一番好きな色）にあこがれますが、自分のセンスに自信がないので、とっても惹かれるのですが、今回はやっぱり多色でいきます。（やっぱり最初のクウェーカーサンプラーだし、一度は多色使いを刺して見たかったし.....) 今度クウェーカーにチャレンジするときにはぜひ同系色で刺してみたいです(妄想中.....)。MaryのほかにFreebieなどにも浮気しています。

I finally finished the first motif! This was actually quite challenging for me. I adjusted the chart so that it'd be symmetrical.

やっと糸が（ひとつを除いて）そろいました。Belfastの
Flax というのがくせもので、微妙に薄い色なので、白や生成りの色が全然映えません。自然なリネンの色を狙ったつもりだったのですが、もう少し濃い色だったたらよかったんですね～　

そのおかげで、オフホワイトと739もそのまんまではだめだろうということで色を変えることにしました。実際、DMCのオフホワイトと739に一番近いAVASの色を布にあててみたんですが、やっぱり無理そう。　うす紫っぽい色や、モーヴ、ベージュなどを近所のお店で選んできました。選んだ色は、上記を見てください（むらさきで書いてあるものが今日新しく買ってきたものです）。2941だけはなんだか超ど派手ピンクのような気がするのですが(写真でもひとつだけ、めちゃくちゃ目だってます）。　どうしよう.........

それはともかく、やっと一番最初のモチーフ(サーモンピンクのやつ）ができたのですが、これが手ごわかったこと！クウェーカー初心者には大変でした(ボケボケ写真ですみません）。左右対照でないところは、勝手に手直ししました。これを直すか直さないかはアメリカのSALでは結構話題になっている模様。Jenさんは直して刺す派のようで、彼女のブログに左右対照に直したモチーフのチャートがアップロードしてあります（これとかこれとかこれも）。そのほかにも、Jacqulineさん自身のチャートミスらしきものもありますが、適当に手直しして刺しちゃってます。みなさんはどうしてますか？

Mary Wigham part 1-2

Here is the progess. I am still thinking of the choice of the colors I made.....I changed white > ecre/2541, and am going to buy pale lavender color as a replacement of ecre. But 2541 doesn't seem to show well on the fabric I choose....hmmm what should I do?

DMCのecreの代わりに使ったAVASの2541....あれれれれ。全然見えません。写真では、はっきり言ってよだれみたいに見えますね。どうしよう。もう一度違う色でやり直しです。

I am stitching 2 over 2.....whoa! big fat crosses! I just finished a small project on DMC linen 28 ct 1 over 1 using caron waterlilies. What a big difference! The stitches are so chubby that I feel like I am making a tapestry using wool.


Aaaaaah. I changed it to 1 over 2. Much better (or at least easier!)

I also decided to change some of the colors

選んだ糸の写真を撮ってみました。DMCの代わりにAu ver a soie d'Alger (AVAS)を使う予定です。とりあえず、パート１に使う色だけを買ってきました。最初は2 over 2でちょこっとやってみたんですけど、あああああ、無理でした。むちむちです。1 over 2でいきます。

Mary Wigham 1790

I joined SAL for Mary Wigham 1790 sampler. The chart is generously offered by Shari.

I choose 32 Count Belfast Linen in Flax from my stash for the fablic. I would like to use AVAS, but it seems I only have several colors that I can use. See how it goes....I am so excited. I found these fantastic pics (here and here too), which shows DMC to AVA conversion, so asked Nadine what color she used. She kindly shared with me which color she picked. Elle etait tres gentile! Her first part is also amasing! I originally thought of using fabric that is more yellowish, but her pic made me think of making my MW more french country-esq, rather than antique/early american-like. You can read more in detail in her blog.

32 カウントのBelfastを使ってステッチすることにしました。色はFlaxです。在庫にあったからなんですが、本当はもうすこし黄味がかった、アンティークっぽい色にするつもりだったんですが、フランスのナディーンさんのブログの写真（これ）を見てから、「別にオリジナルにそっくりじゃなきゃいけないってわけじゃないのね。」と思い立ち、ちょっとかわいく、フレンチカントリーっぽくできたらいいかなーと思って、Flaxを使うことにしました。ナディーンさんのに似た、もっと白っぽいリネンもあるのですが、白や生成りの色がうまく出ないと思い、やめました。あとは糸を選らばなければ。Au ver a soie d'algerを使いたいので、DMCの色見本と比べてみたけれど....む、むずかしい....

同じくナディーンさんのブログにDMCとAVASを比較したとてもとても美しい写真が載っていて、（これとこれとこれ）さっそく何色を使うことにしたのか聞いちゃいました。私の在庫にあったのはたった3色!　やっぱり買いに走るしかないか....
